6 Tips For Learning Kiswahili Quickly

Congratulations on your interest in learning Kiswahili! You have embarked on a fantastic journey that will involve eating new foods, singing and dancing to wonderful music and watching funny Kiswahili films. Benefit from these six tips on how you can learn Kiswahili quickly.

1.                Engage your senses

By simultaneously activating multiple sensory channels, i.e., sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing, you can easily recall the information you have learnt! When you learn a new term, associate it with these senses. For example, if it is a name of a particular food, taste it, smell it, see it, or even touch it by cooking it!

2.                Commit to memory

The memory flashing in this method is extremely powerful and simple. First, you take your notes and study them carefully, then write notes. Third, you then set your notes aside and redraw or rewrite them from memory, creating a second set of notes. Do this severally, and take breaks in between.

3.                Soak it overnight

You will learn it far more rapidly if you review your notes on a subject for a few moments before getting ready for bed. Your brain appears to use sleep as a time to file away information; your dreams help you to connect new information which you already know. So before you sleep, study some Kiswahili, then go to bed.

4.                Support system

Engage a friend or a family member to be your accountability partner. Their work is to help you make progress toward your commitment to learning Kiswahili. Share everything you know with them, and share your progress with them.

5.                Practice daily

Spend some two hours every day studying Kiswahili. Make sure to incorporate the different elements of learning; read, listen, write and speak, even when alone. Make it interesting. For example, write down your thoughts in Kiswahili, and speak or read to your pet!

6.                Full immersion

Immersion-based learning means learning a language most authentically and naturally possible. Visit a Kiswahili-speaking country and truly experience all aspects of life in Kiswahili. If you cannot visit or relocate, interact with the world through the language. For example, read a Kiswahili novel or a child’s picture book. Watch Kiswahili movies and listen to Kiswahili music, find YouTube clips at a level that suits you. All these will help you develop your listening skills and aid in your pronunciation in Swahili.
